CHS NJROTC Raises More than $5,000 in Support of Angel Tree

The Carson High School Naval Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (NJROTC) program raised more than $5,000 for the local Angel Tree gift program. District Responds to Threatening Social Media Posts and TikTok Challenges

The Carson City Sheriff’s Department and the Carson City School District have been made aware of several national TikTok social media posts threatening gun violence at any-given school on Friday, December 17, 2021. There is no information that specifically identifies any Carson City school. Authorities believe the social media posts, which appear to be originating outside of the State of Nevada, started as an attempt to cancel school before winter vacation. The Carson City Sheriff’s Department is monitoring social media along with state and federal law enforcement. Currently there is no credible threat to any school in Carson City.   READ MORE...

Carson City Schools Observe 2-hour Delayed Start Tuesday

As a result of the winter storm disrupting travel throughout the region, all Carson City School District schools will observe a delayed 2-hour schedule Tuesday, Dec. 14, 2021. Administrators and educators at Carson City’s Mark Twain Elementary School, 2111 Carriage Crest Drive, will host Posada 2021, Friday, Dec. 10, from 5:30-8:00 p.m. The outdoor event, open to all Mark Twain students and families, is part of the school’s English Second Language (ESL) Department’s iCan Initiative designed to increase ESL parent and family involvement for Mark Twain Elementary ESL students and to help reinforce and extend learning taught during regular classroom instruction. Dolan Auto Group Donates $50,000 to Carson City Schools for Classroom Projects

The Carson City School District would like to share special thanks to Dolan Auto Group for donating $50,000 to schools throughout Carson City. The money was awarded as part of the “Dolan Class Project,” a community benefit program the dealership hosts each year. Carson City schools raked in the winnings from the competition with 8 out of the 10 total Carson City schools earning funding. Carson High School HOSA Students Donate to Cancer Foundation

To help raise money to support Breast Cancer Awareness during the month of October, HOSA (Future Healthcare Professionals) at Carson High School (CHS) placed bins to collect spare change and dollars in various teachers’ rooms. The students were encouraged to donate to their favorite teacher they would like to see dressed in “All Pink.” CHS English Teacher Jason Macy and Chemistry Teacher Curtis Kortemeier were the winners and dressed up Tuesday and Wednesday, Oct. 26 and 27, respectively. Pioneer Academy Student Places Seventh in Speech & Debate Tournament

Pioneer Academy’s Speech and Debate team has had a late but great start to the 2021-2022 season. COVID-19’s Delta variant not only knocked out the team’s coach for two weeks, but has also caused stricter regulations for tournament participation. Pioneer Academy missed the first tournament as a result of these complications. Coach Blair Roman Retires as Head Football Coach at Carson High School

Coach Blair Roman has retired as Head Football Coach after 14 seasons leading the Senators Football Program. Coach Roman’s record at Carson High School was 81-63. Western Nevada College (WNC) celebrated with Carson High School (CHS) seniors yesterday for completing applications for the Nevada Promise Scholarship, which allows graduating seniors to attend community colleges in Nevada with full tuition paid. Carson City School District Statement on Mask Mandate

The Carson City School Board approved the Carson City School District’s Safe Reopening Plan for the 2021-2022 school year, at the school board meeting Tuesday, July 13, 2021. The Plan passed with a unanimous vote of 7-0. School district officials say they have no plans to change or alter the approved plan. However, because Carson City currently has a “substantial or high transmission rate” of the COVID-19 virus or its variants, our community joins 11 other counties in the state that will begin the school year with a facemask mandate for all students, staff and visitors regardless of vaccination status.  READ MORE...

Carson City School District will require masks through remainder of school year

It is good news to hear the CDC has eased outdoor and indoor mask-wearing guidance. We are hopeful of more normality on the horizon. However, to be more fully clear for our parents, families, employees and educators, the Carson City School District will continue to follow the health and safety protocols that currently exists within the district and the COVID-19 Mitigation Transition Plan set forth by the Carson City Board of Supervisors. Therefore, for the remainder of the 2020-2021 school year, masks will continue to be required indoors and where individuals are unable to socially distance, regardless of vaccination status.   READ MORE...

Foundation Supports WNC Jump Start, Seeks Donations for Textbooks

The Carson City Schools Foundation (CCSF), in support of the Carson City School District, seeks community donors to match its efforts to ‘Sponsor a Student’ for the Western Nevada College (WNC) Jump Start College program. Everyone has adapted his or her assignments this year within the requirements associated with the pandemic and it has required no small effort. Not only has the staff adjusted to the new work expectations, but our work duties were modified multiple times as conditions associated with COVID-19 changed. Pinewood Derby Gives CHS Engineering Students Hands-on Experience

Carson High School Career and Technical Education (CTE) students received hands-on experience last month when they created and raced their own pinewood derby cars. The experience was more sophisticated than a typical Cub Scout contest because the architectural and civil engineering students had to first create the car design using the computer-aided design (CAD) software, Autodesk. They then used power tools to build their car from a block of wood to fit the specifications of their CAD results.   READ MORE...

Reaching Test Growth Targets a Cause for Celebration, Sliming and Raffles

Several students at Seeliger and Empire Elementary schools celebrated last week for reaching MAP Test growth targets by sliming teachers and earning raffles. Trustees Vote to Keep Existing School Schedule

The Carson City School District School Board of Trustees voted in favor (six in favor with Trustee Don Carine abstaining) to keep the existing school education model for the remainder of the 2020-2021 School Year. The action solidified the district’s method of instruction to continue in-person, on-campus instruction for all Pre-K through eighth graders, four days a week, Tuesdays through Fridays. No Makeup Days Required for Inclement Weather

The Carson City School District (CCSD) is pleased to announce it meets or exceeds the minimum number of minutes taught per day, and in turn, students will not be required to make up the days at the end of the school year due to weather-related school cancellations. The last day of school for CCSD students will remain Thursday, June 3, 2021. CHS Senior Experiencing Unimaginable Ivy League Dream

Carson High School Senior Cristian Garcia Perez never believed that he would leave Carson City in order to attend an Ivy League university. However, this August he will be headed to Hanover, New Hampshire where he will be attending Dartmouth College with a scholarship covering nearly all tuition and expenses. Carson High School Parents, Seniors to be Surveyed about Graduation

The Carson City School District announced plans for Pioneer High School’s senior graduation ceremonies and Carson Middle and Eagle Valley Middle Schools’ eighth grade promotions Friday, April 9. Carson High School has not yet determined whether graduation ceremonies will be traditional ceremony or a drive-through event. To help assist in the decision, CHS is sending out a ParentSquare message today requesting input from parents and guardians as to whether they would prefer a modified traditional in-person or drive-through ceremony. The Carson City School District would like to reassure employees there has not been a data breach or leak of information within the school district. There is, however, since the start of the pandemic last year, an ongoing issue of false unemployment claims being filed among numerous employers throughout the state of Nevada and across the nation. Pre-K, Kindergarten & Annual Update Registrations begins Tuesday, April 6

Beginning April 6, 2021, online registration, annual updates, and elective class selections will be underway in the Carson City School District. The annual update is an online process that allows families to verify and submit yearly required information such as current home address, contact information, and emergency contacts which are necessary in order for district administrators and teachers to contact parents or families. This online process eliminates the forms and paperwork that used to be required for annual registration. With the Infinite Campus online tool, parents and families can view class schedules, attendance records, teacher communications and other information regarding the school and their student.  READ MORE...

The Carson City School District School Board of Trustees voted unanimously to offer in-person, on-campus instruction to all seventh and eighth graders, four days a week, Tuesdays through Fridays. The first official day of this more traditional education model will begin at the start of the final fourth quarter, Tuesday, March 23, 2021. Spectator Protocols, Procedures and Policies for CCSD Athletic Events

Carson City School District has released its plan to allow limited spectators to high school athletic contests, starting with 100 fans at games, with that number increasing to 250 after March 14. Only home-team spectators will be allowed during the Fall and Spring 2020-21 athletic seasons. Due to inclement weather, all Schools in the Carson City School District will be closed again for the entire day Friday, Jan. 29, 2021. All employees, students and teachers should remain home. On, Friday, January 29, 2021, all Carson City School District schools will resume classes on a delayed 2-hour schedule. Buses will also operate on a 2-hour delay, so approximately 2-hours later than usual. There will be no Pre-School classes or breakfast served at school. The school day will end at the regular time. Local Scientist Donates 550 Thermometer Watches to STEM School

The Carson City School District is pleased to announce Empire Elementary School, a designated Governor’s STEM School, has received 550 Thermometer Watches from local Scientist Ron Newton. The wearable technology, costing less than $10, is designed to monitor the temperature of the wearer and indicate if they are running a fever. The school is beta testing the prototype, which constantly monitors temperature and displays every 8 seconds using a color changing light emitting diode without using a switch.  READ MORE...

Meeting on Eagle Valley Middle School Construction

New Leadership Roles, Re-elected Sworn In

The Carson City School District is pleased to announce new leadership roles for the School Board of Trustees. At their first meeting of the year Tuesday, Jan. 11, Joe Cacioppo, District 7, was named the newest president of the Carson City School District Board of Trustees. He replaced former President Mike Walker, District 5, as the school board’s leader. Trustees Richard Varner, District 4, and Laurel Crossman, District 2, were also elected vice president and clerk, respectively. Varner replaced former Vice President Cacioppo and Crossman replaced former Clerk Varner. Each of the three leaders will serve one-year terms on the Carson City School Board.  READ MORE...
