Today was
Agriculture Day at Empire Elementary School! Woody Worthington, president of the Carson and Douglas County Farm Bureau, helped coordinate with the Nevada Department of Agricultural and several other local agencies to provide the experience for the students.
Children visited a dozen different stations to learn about cattle and dairy, grain, goats, horses, National Resources Conservation Services, nutrition, rabbits, snakes, swine, tractors, water management and weeds.
Worthington said the main goal of the event is agricultural literacy. "Agricultural is not just one industry," he said. "It is very diverse and interconnected."
Agriculture is more than just livestock. The Carson Valley and surround valleys provide not only for the local region, but also across the country.
Les Schwab also provided unlimited popcorn for each student.
