During a special session last night, the Carson City School District School Board of Trustees voted unanimously to offer in-person, on-campus instruction for third to sixth graders, four days a week, Tuesdays through Fridays. The first official day of this more traditional education model will begin Tuesday, Jan. 19, 2021. Cookie Dough Sales Raise $11,000 for Eagle Valley Middle School

Eagle Valley Middle School (EVMS) went ‘dough to dough’ in the Parent Teacher Organization’s (PTO) annual cookie dough fundraiser. In total, the gross sales were equivalent to more than $15,597. The Carson City School District’s Nutrition Services will provide free lunch and breakfast for all children 18 and under beginning Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2020. Meals will be provided at the student’s request, and meals for the following day will also be available in grab-and-go style for students participating in the hybrid learning model where they attend school in-person twice weekly. The Carson City School District reported its first positive COVID-19 case for the school district. The person works in the transportation department. The district is working with Carson City Health and Human Services on contact tracing, but no other employees were identified as close contacts. The district is confident in the contact tracing process, and as a result, anticipates a very small number of individuals to be excluded from school for the 14-day isolation period. Saturday, April 4, was the previously scheduled evening designated for what many considered a rite-of-passage for high school seniors and a quintessential American tradition that, along with graduation, often symbolizes the end of one chapter in life and the beginning of a new one. Update on Status of Education in Carson City: Remote Learning Approved

This past weekend, Gov. Sisolak and state authorities provided updates and clarifications regarding statewide school closures amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Among the top of the list most impacting students and families in Carson City were four points: 1) all testing has been waived, 2) schools will not reopen prior to April 16, 3) all school employees are deemed to be “essential” and 4) the Nevada Department of Education has approved the request for Emergency Program of Distance Education from the Carson City School District.   READ MORE...

How to Access Remote Learning for Students

As part of the Remote Learning or at-home lesson plans set to launch Monday, March 23, the Carson City School District (CCSD) has made a number of resources available on the carsoncityschools.com website. A Remote Learning page has been created to provide parents and students with weekly materials for elementary students. All secondary students (middle and high school students) will receive instruction from their teachers using Google Classroom. Teachers will also make arrangements for copies to be printed and available for pick up in school offices for families who may not have the ability to remotely print them from home.  READ MORE...

Nutrition Services with the Carson City School District (CCSD) have added two more drive-through pick-up locations for free lunch and breakfast, including the Boys and Girls Club of Western Nevada and the Ron Wood Family Resource Center. Nevada now has confirmed presumptive cases under quarantine in two counties. There are no confirmed cases within Carson City at this time; however, the Board of Trustees and the administration share the concerns of our community about a possible outbreak in our community. Two Teachers Earn National Board Certifications

The Carson City School District is celebrating two new National Board Certified Teachers (NBCT) from the National Board of Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS). Recognition will come at Tuesday’s school board meeting. At the first school board meeting of the year Tuesday, Jan. 14, Mike Walker was named the newest president of the Carson City School District Board of Trustees. He replaced former President Stacie Wilke-McCulloch, as the school board’s leader. Trustees Joe Cacioppo and Richard Varner were also elected vice president and clerk, respectively.
