The Carson City Sheriff’s Office in conjunction with the Carson City School District and Partnership Carson City is promoting a safe and sober New Year’s Eve for local youth. Any middle school or high school students who have a get together on New Year’s Eve are encouraged to invite their School Resource Officer (SRO).

This is the second year doing this program. The way the program works is any student at any type of youth gathering on New Year’s Eve may call the NON EMERGENCY line for Dispatch 775-887-2008 and request an SRO to stop by the party. They can also email SRO Adams in advance for a reserved time. When students call dispatch, they should say they want an “SRO check,” and operator coordinate the visit.

The SRO will come to the house or location of the gathering and meet with the students. The SRO will then make sure the gathering is drug and alcohol free. The SRO’s will have pizzas (while supplies last) and/or other prizes to present to the youth at the gatherings. The parties or gatherings should have at least three or more kids. The sheriff’s office will begin SRO checks at 8 p.m. and Dispatch will take calls to schedule visits until midnight.

The SRO’s will also be responding to reports of juvenile problems where appropriate enforcement action will be taken.

The Safe and Sober New Years is designed to promote and encourage a drug and alcohol free gathering for youth. It also attempts to keep the youth in a safe environment for New Year’s Eve. So invite an SRO to a New Year’s Eve party and get a free pizza. The Pizzas are paid for by Partnership Carson City. Any questions contact SRO Deputy Jarrod Adams at [email protected].
