Pioneer Academy’s Student of the Month for November is Kaitlyn Nguyen. Kaitlyn’s life experience has taught her hard work, dedication and determination to do her best can help her find success wherever she looks. Kaitlyn was eight years old when she enrolled in school in Carson City. She joined the Pioneer academy family two years ago as a seventh grader in the online program and quickly excelled through her classes. Now Kaitlyn is a tenth grade student at Pioneer, dual-enrolled in the online program and in-person at the Pioneer campus. She is currently taking honors classes and college dual-credit courses to prepare herself for the future.

Kaitlyn is considering going to college to study architecture after she graduates. She has a desire to work with struggling families to help them realize their dreams of owning affordable housing. Kaitlyn has a strong conviction for helping people and volunteering at organizations like FISH. She had family that assisted her and her mom when they moved to Carson City, and she would like to give back to people in need like others helped her.

When asked who she credits for her success, she said with a big smile, “My mom. She always looks out for me and takes care of everything. I don’t appreciate her enough. I think I will give her a hug today.” Kaitlyn also appreciates her friends that support her and continue to motivate her to be her best. Personal relationships and developing friends is important to Kaitlyn. She stated that Pioneer Academy has helped develop her confidence to make friends and the smaller class sizes created opportunities to connect with her teachers to become her friend.

Kaitlyn is planning to stay at Pioneer Academy and join the Jumpstart program to earn an associate of arts from WNC when she graduates in two years. We are confident that Kaitlyn will be able to realize her goal, and we are excited to see where she will land.
