Several classrooms at Empire and Fritsch Elementary Schools were captivated during Reading Week with virtual presentations by Nicholis Solis, an esteemed elementary school teacher and author of the latest children’s book, “My Town Mi Pueblo” (2022). The Carson City students were able to interact via Zoom during various presentations.

Four Carson City Teachers Earn Grants from Delta Kappa Gamma

Carson Middle School English Teacher Rhonda Holloway, Seeliger Elementary Fourth Grade Teacher Toni Nielson and Mark Twain Fourth and Second Grade Teachers Kylie Jensen and Alyson Haas were recent recipients of the “Apple Award” from the Delta Kappa Gamma NU Chapter in the total amount of $500. There were more than 14 total applicants. Delta Kappa Gamma is an educational organization of teachers who support other teachers.

Carson High Ski Team Competes at State, Sends Two to Nationals to Win

The Carson High School (CHS) Senators ski team wrapped up its 2024 campaign by qualifying for state and sending two to compete at nationals. Thomas Callister and Madalyn Lind Smith represented CHS at nationals as members of the Tahoe Basin race team. As a team, both boys and girls took first place at the Western USA Championships at Mammoth on March 14 and 15.

Free School Meals Ending, Families Must Apply Before May 24, 2024

State funding for free school meals including breakfast and lunch will end May 30, 2024. In an effort to support student meals in school, the Carson City School District Food and Nutrition Services department is asking parents and families to apply for free and reduced meals (educational benefits). Students requiring school-provided meals, need families to complete the educational benefits application online before Friday, May 24, 2024 (paper forms available through school offices).

Carson High School Senior Michael Hughes, 17, was crowned ‘Mr. Carson High’ Friday evening at the school’s cheerleader fundraising event in the Bob Boldrick Theatre at the Carson City Community Center. ‘Almost Mr. Carson High’ (1st runner-up) Erich Parker and ‘Nearly Mr. Carson High’ (2nd runner-up) was awarded to Ryan Barbarigos.

The Carson City Library’s Pedal Library will be busy delivering books to students attending summer school. Now through the end of June, the teardrop trailer pulled behind a bike will provide up to 60 pounds of books at each elementary school within the Carson City School District. The mobile library will be offering mobile wifi and charging station soon.
