Carson City School District is announcing updates to its Spectator Policy for high school Spring athletic contests. The biggest change to the policy allows for visiting fans to attend as spectators. All spectators will be admitted to sporting events on a first-come, first-served basis.

The district said it will comply with all COVID-19 directives limiting public gatherings at events. Through the end of April, restrictions limit no more than 250 people to gather for outdoor events. When decision-making authority returns to local governments Saturday, May 1, 2021, the district will reevaluate the policy for Spring Sports if the numbers for public gatherings increase.

“Our top priority for sporting events at Carson High continues to be safety and conducting athletic events for our Spring Sport athletes, and especially where parents and families can watch them compete,” said Coach Blair Roman, Carson High School’s athletic director. “We would like to thank parents and families at CHS for their continued support and adherence to these guidelines to ensure all our student athletes may continue to compete.”

As part of the previous plan for fall sports, football players and coaches were tested weekly per NIAA guidelines as a contact sport or if they become symptomatic. All sports this spring will not require testing unless a participant is symptomatic.

All participants in all NIAA sanctioned events (athletes, coaches, game workers, administrators, and officials) will be health screened prior to all contests. Each Head Coach of each sport is expected to fully implement and execute the NIAA guidelines for their sport that have been provided by the NIAA.

Gate workers will count and document all entries that come into that contest. All spectators will be required to sign-in for their health screen to gain admittance on a CHS Athletics Health Screen Form. Masks will be required to be worn at all times by all spectators at all events. Social distancing of all spectators and school personnel will be in effect for the entire duration of each contest.

Once contests have concluded, spectators should leave the premises immediately and wait for their child at their vehicle. No congregating of parents or spectators after contests. Athletes will be released to their parents in the parking lot to get a ride home.
